The Zhuang Enthic Group!

The Zhuang ethnicity is one of the largest ethnic groups in China, next to the Han. The Zhuang poeple are of the Tai origin. They are very clever people, for they developed a unique irrigation system which was useful in growing rice. Over time, they had many problems with the people of China, therefore they migrated away from Southern China to create the Lao. They have a total population of about 18 million people. They generally speak the languages of Zhuang, Mandarin Chinese, and Pinghua Chinese. When it comes to religion, they are predominantly animist with ancestor worship, but there are also some Buddhists, Taoists, and Christians. They are closely related with the Buyei, Tay, and Nung ethnic groups.

East Asian Food

In many parts of Asia, rice is a very common food, and it is mostly served steamed. China is the world largest producer and consumer of rice. In India, people often eat food with their hands, and many spices are used in every dish. Most spices originated around India or neighboring countries such as Sri Lanka.

China, with its massive population and widely distributed diaspora, has become possibly the most well known of the foods coming from this part of the world. Japanese food has become known for dishes such as sushi that focus on raw ingredients and deep fried dishes such as tempura. Korean food has come to feature cooking methods such as sauteing and what is known in america as barbecue. Strong flavors featuring spices derived from chili peppers can also be found in dishes such as kimchi.

Many of the Hans' still follow their old traditions. They still practice Confucianism. Confucianism is not a religoin but it is more like a set of laws or a set of rules regarding relationships.

Wolong Nature Reserve - Mt.Siguniangshan Panda Watching Tour!

One of my greatest memories from Western China was when my friends and I visited the Wolong Nature Reserve and took a six day adventure to watch the Giant Pandas in their natural habitat. This beautiful place is home to more then 40 Giant Pandas. We got to see the sites, eat the food, visit the wild life, and go on a horse ride through the landscapes and see some of the most gorgeous peaks in all of Western China. We took a day long adventure to see Mt.Siguniangshan. On the way, we rode horses, and visited some very beautiful sites, such as rivers, waterfalls, and valleys. We also had plenty of time to eat a delicious picnic lunch, and mingle with our new friends and tour guides. I made many new friends and had some very good times at the Reserve, and I highly recomend visiting there if you happen to trek across Western China.

Western Hills

My friends and I visited the Western Hills. They were beautiful. They are located 15 km from Kunming city along the western shore of Dianchi Lake. The Hills are said to look like a sleeping maiden lying on the banks of Dianchi Lake with her long hair coming down into the lake, which is why there nickname is the "A Sleeping Beauty Hills". In fact, the Western Hills are perfact for hiking. You can find some of the important sites like: Huating Temple,an ancient Buddhist temple; Taihua Temple which has a lively orchard courtyard; Sanqing Pavilion a Daoist temple; and Dragon Gate, with some Daoist caves and sculptures.By:alexis sloan
